Policy & strategy
The team at the Bulmer Foundation comprises people with a commitment to promoting sustainable development in Herefordshire. It is our belief that the positive changes necessary to achieve this will be the result of enlightened public policy development combined with changing practice on the ground. Both are necessary - and are mutually reinforcing.
In the team we have expertise in education, community health, sustainable land use, local food production and evaluation; and we have increasing experience of working with local organisations across the public, private and third sectors. The Foundation is keen to ensure that grass-roots experience informs policy development and this is achieved through active participation in many strategic forums affecting the County. These include:
Herefordshire Local Nature Partnership (LNP)
The Foundation was actively involved in its predecessor, the Herefordshire Environment Partnership and remains committed to the LNP. The LNP seeks to integrate social, economic and environmental issues relating to Herefordshire's natural environment.
Herefordshire Tourism & Food Partnership
The Foundation helped establish the Herefordshire Food Partnership and drafted the County's Sustainable Food Strategy. In 2014 the Food Partnership was merged with the County Tourism Partnership to provide a strategic oversight to those two economically important sectors.
Herefordshire Nutrient Management Partnership (NMP)
The Foundation convenes and chairs the NMP to help deliver the phosphate reduction strategy for the River Wye and Lugg (see Land Use section).
Wye Catchment Management Partnership (CMP)
The CMP provides strategic oversight for the Wye Catchment, looking at issues ranging from diffuse pollution, abstraction, recreational use of the river etc.
LEADER is a European funding programme and the Foundation sits on the Local Area Group (LAG).
The Marches Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP)
The Foundation convened an Environmental and Land-Based Group to help develop the economic strategy for the Marches area.
Herefordshire in Transition Alliance
The Foundation has been delighted to be associated with the growth of Transition initiatives across Herefordshire and with the recent emergence of the Alliance, of which we are a very supportive member.
