Land-based business development

We are developing our own commercial projects to demonstrate that businesses can be environmentally and socially restorative whilst at the same time being economically successful. The revenue from these ventures will increasingly fund our charitable activities.

Our projects include

  • Finding a sustainable use for pomace (apple waste).
  • Developing, with Scottish & Newcastle plc, a biomass fuelled steam generation plant at their Hereford site.
  • Piloting a project to supply and install wind turbines.
  • A proposal for the creation of a local investment fund to encourage sustainable business in Herefordshire.
Business activity is usually measured by its economic value. In reality, a business will also have an environmental and social impact. These impacts can be measured in a similar way by giving them a value, which could be positive or negative. We call this ‘triple bottom line accounting' and advocate using it to assess the overall effect of a business on society as a whole.
